Job Description Summary

Uses advanced cost basis acumen and skills gained through experience to provide superior client service on the most complex accounts through accuracy, timeliness, and department standards. Independently researches, provides analysis, and makes recommendations on processing strategies using various systems, procedures, and tactical techniques. Provides guidance, research assistance, and training to Cost Basis associates. Assists with statement audits, correspondence creation, report analysis, and unit initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Client Request Review: Reviews client requests for accuracy, good order, and adherence to regulatory guidelines for items of the highest complexity. Interacts with other areas of the division as needed to complete requests in a timely and accurate manner.

  2. Cost Basis Calculation: Calculates and maintains cost basis information for client holdings using proprietary software programs in accordance with Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations, legal requirements, and department procedures.

  3. Historical Data Reconstruction: Analyzes historical records and information provided by clients and other investment firms to reconstruct and/or verify the accuracy of cost basis information.

  4. Corporate Actions & System Validation: Assesses corporate actions and determines the resulting cost basis implications. Validates systematically generated output to ensure accuracy, making adjustments when disparities occur. Validates that cost basis data is maintained accurately in client-facing resources and materials.

Qualifications
  • Brokerage Industry Experience: REQUIRED (Must have prior experience in the brokerage industry).

  • Education: Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience preferred.

  • Background: Strong accounting or finance background preferred.

  • Product Expertise: Brokerage product expertise preferred. Upskilling will be required in the reconciliation of Corporate Actions, Options, Margin accounting, Fixed Income, Convertible Securities, and other specialized brokerage products.

  • Core Competencies:

    • Excellent time management, problem resolution, and research skills.

    • Computer proficiency required; ability to learn and utilize proprietary software programs.

    • Positive attitude with the willingness to collaborate and give/receive constructive feedback.

    • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a rapidly changing environment.
